The Motor Company's Communal Spaces garden play festival comes to our garden every September to wow us with original plays written specifically for this festival and weekly concerts from local musical acts. They end each festival with a delicious community picnic.
Kacia Flórez graced us with her beautiful voice and music in both the 2024 and 2025 Communal Spaces festival. She is an Andean female singer-songwriter from NYC. Check her out on Instagram for upcoming gigs.
La Manga's music was made for our garden. People come to our space to escape the hustle and bustle of NYC life and these drums and sounds are medicine for the body and mind. Be sure to follow them wherever they perform...
Always a Queens favorite, families flock to come see Musiquita dazzle us with music and movement. Bilingual wife/husband duo Blanca and Jesse play violin and piano uplifting and encouraging children to dance and sing.
938 Collective performed their Carnival-inspired rendition of Romeo & Juliet in our space in 2025 and it was a sideshow extravaganza. So much fun to watch the drama and intrigue as you followed the actors from one part of the garden to another. Immersive and interactive theater at its best!
Almost Like Being Alive, a new play written by gaia, directed by Rhys Luke, showed at the garden in July 2025 to rave reviews.
Needs More Work Productions has performed plays at our garden since 2023. Anti-Gone and Back-Eye were big hits. This theater company transforms our garden into ancient cities with amazing costumes and incredible acting. They've also created plays for the Climate Change Theatre Action festival. Be sure to keep an eye out for their upcoming productions...
Another partnership with The Motor Company, PLAY ON is an annual playwriting workshop for 9–12 year olds. Their summer spent writing and editing culminates in their original plays being performed by professional actors to kick off the Communal Spaces festival. These stories are always amazing! You don't want to miss it.
We also partnered with Make Music NYC to feature three local bands/artists as part of a larger day that was dreamed up in France in 1982 by Jack Lang and his staff at the Ministry of Culture. They imagined a day where free music would be everywhere, all around each city: street corners, parks, rooftops, gardens, and store fronts.
If you have not heard Felix Slim perform, you have not lived! It's not every day in NYC that you get to hear the blues, ragtime, and swing music sung by this very entertaining artist from Spain. Follow him to see where he's at next!
Aviva Jaye was a delight to experience at the garden. We were privileged to hear her voice and electronica music but she also seems to play just about every instrument under the sun! Be sure to follow this multi-talented musician...
We hosted Rashmi as she performed her "Queens of Queens: Women of Woodside" modern day folk songs at the garden. She has many gigs all over so be sure to follow her for what's next.
Thrak, the Cyclops came to our garden in 2022 with puppeteer Karl Custer and kids couldn't believe how HUGE Thrak was. If you're a puppeteer and want to perform here, reach out to us!
We've also hosted teen Open Mics where young people share their amazing talents with our community.
Thrash Press presented Summer Nights, an open mic where writers shared from their zines and broadsides
Local writers have also hosted book launches and poetry readings at the garden.
ArtBridge partnered with Woodside Houses to create and exhibit public art in its urban spaces for the community. The scaffolding murals were created in our garden!
Woodside Arts Collective performed a Peter Rabbit operetta on Mother's Day weekend with a local maker's market with special gifts for mom.
Seamus Scanlon had a reading of his play, The Long Wet Grass in 2023. This story was in both English and Irish. See what he's up to next...
Jedi Knight training in the rain? Sure! Our amazing volunteer Kaitlyn Farley gave an introductory class in film/stage sword fighting for our younger crew.

Throughout the growing season, we offer craft activities, often dreamed up by our Artist-in-Residence, Twig, a former Art Teacher. Kids have made masquerade masks from cut out cardboard, helped fill in our Paint-by-Number shed, created mandalas, and made clothespin puppets.
