FREE PANTRY

In 2020, we turned our year-old homemade Little Free Library into a Little Free Pantry outside on our sidewalk to create a space for our neighbors who were experiencing food insecurity to come and grab nonperishable food items any time of day. 

Give What You Can, Take What You Need. Solidarity, Not Charity.

We also started producing more food with higher yields so we could place whatever we had leftover from our harvest in the local community fridge across the street. 

In 2024, our pantry had seen better days and we asked Astoria Woodworkers Collective for an upgrade to accommodate more donations from our neighbors.

WHAT CAN BE PLACED IN THE FREE PANTRY?

You can only put items in the pantry that are NONPERISHABLE. A good rule of thumb is whether or not you'd have to refrigerate it. That means that canned goods, cooking oil, pasta, cereal, and bags of flour are appropriate items to put inside.

LITTLE FREE LIBRARY

In 2021, Pilot and the crew from The Rolling Library graciously offered us a legit, registered Little Free Library and it was installed in the Spring. Now our neighbors are able to place a variety of books for all ages in there and other community members come to browse and grab what looks good.

WHAT CAN BE PLACED IN THE LITTLE FREE LIBRARY?

Little Free Libraries accept picture books, chapter books, young adult (YA) novels, and adult fiction and non-fiction. What you should avoid putting in our library are textbooks, religious materials, pamphlets, magazines, catalogues, and outdated or damaged books.
